London Fog was founded by Israel Myers in nineteen twenty three. The original name was Londontown and was housed
in Meadow Mills of Baltimore, Maryland. He then moved his factory to Eldersburg, Maryland, the street was called
Londontown Boulevard, hence the name Londontown. During World War II the company made waterproof clothing for the
United States Navy. Following the war, Londontown teamed up with DuPont to make a good material for the
raincoats.
This type of raincoat was a huge hit because they also had a removable liner. The company went public in the
early sixties. The company kept growing and soon was making other types of clothing and accessories. At that time,
two thirds of the raincoats sold in the United States was London Fog. Mr. Myers wanted to make mens London Fog
coats that had a nice style; they went with everything and would hold up through the years. Well he did and the
name London Fog is here to stay. He kept rejecting the name London Fog because he thought they would not sell, but
finally relented in nineteen fifty four. Saks Fifth Avenue was the first department store to sell mens London Fog
coats.
They only made one hundred mens London Fog coats then and the price was merely twenty nine ninety five, that was
twice as much as any other rain coat. But they sold out and men begged London Fog to make more. Mens London Fog
coats are wrinkle free which is nice when one travels. What is really nice about these raincoats is they are wash
and wear; if they get dirty just through them in the washer machine. It seems like the more mens London Fog coats
are worn, the better they look.
Mens London Fog coats can be worn year around. Because of the removable lining, it can be worn in the spring and
then in the winter. London Fog has a patent process that keeps the buttons on the coat and a barrier that keeps the
shoulders dry. They come with replaceable buttons, just in case one does fall off and washing instructions inside
the coat.
Mens London Fog coats are styled after the World War I trench coats. The military wore them in the trenches
because of their ease of movement and they would stay dry. The knee length would keep the soldiers dry. Today they
are basically made the same way, and are still very stylish. Even today men like them because of the deep mystique,
maybe of the spies of the past always wore them. Hollywood made them very popular with the movie detectives and
spies. Some say a man in a trench coat holds many deep, dark secrets.
Mens London Fog coats are usually made of polyester, cotton or wool. When buying one of these coats you will not
regret it, even though the price is a bit more than a regular raincoat. Mens London Fog coats will last almost a
lifetime. Wear them with pride and remember the history of these outstanding rain coats.
